POLICE RANGE

POLICE USE OF RANGES:

The following dates and times have been reserved for the B.I. Police Department use of the BISC pistol range during the 2010 year. These are Department only times, so the ranges are closed unless you're on the force and part of the training.  If you are a qualified RSO, please keep this schedule in mind when requesting range times. This request is for the pistol range only.  If the rifle range, shotgun range or club house will be used, a specific request for use of those facilities will be submitted to the Club.

Bainbridge Island is fortunate to have its own professional police department.  There is no activity the police will ever engage in that is more serious than the application of deadly force.  Such incidents are highly charged emotionally and the last thing a police officer needs is to have on his or her mind how to use his or her service weapon--the concentration needs to be on assessing the situation and making the best decision to use any other force or method than deadly force if at all practical in the incident.  The officer who has practiced confidence in his or her service weapon is much less likely to misuse that weapon under stress.

The Sportsmen's Club has a 25 yard Pistol Range and a rifle range to keep the firearms skills of the Bainbridge officers at peak levels.

According to the Department, it would cost thousands of extra dollars in overtime, travel costs, range fees and miscellaneous costs to take the firearms training program off the Island.  In addition the officers would be unavailable for an emergency call whereas now they have their vehicles and gear right on the Island at the Sportsmen's Club while training.

AT THE READY WHILE TRAINING

INSTRUCTION IS PERSONAL AND THOROUGH AND OFTEN

More information on the police use of the Sportsmen's Club range by the BIPD can be had at (206) 842-5211.

The Club considers it a privilege to provide facilities for this vital training to improve the security of our Island City and save many tax dollars that can go to other vital City needs.
